Avec une température moyenne de 24 °C, le climat est particulièrement clément et ensoleillé. D'avril à septembre, les nuits peuvent être cependant plus fraîches.

En plus du français, on parle toujours à Ouvéa deux langues vernaculaires : le iaai d’origine mélanésienne, dans le centre nord de l’île, et le faga-uvéa, parlé par les descendants des polynésiens dans le sud et dans le nord.
