8 to 11 November – Roh-Nengoné (Maré)

For the long weekend around the 11th of November, why not head to the Nengoné Country to celebrate one of the most illustrious fish from the ocean’s depths, the pride and joy of the Roh tribe’s fishermen: the Wajuyu (pronounced « Wadjouyou »).

What is the Wajuyu ?

Wajuyu is the local name for a type of red snapper ; a fish from the deep ocean, whose flesh is a real delicacy, highly valued here. The festival takes place on the lands of the Roh tribe and this will be its 13th year. It is an opportunity to appreciate the know-how of the island’s sea clans, their mythical places, their history, and their fishermen. A dream-come-true for those who love the open sea, a chance to share memorable moments with the locals.

Our staff will welcome you on the Tadine docks. From there you will head to the Roh tribe’s land, where your arrival will be celebrated in the best local style, with the customary ceremony, an essential prelude in the lovelight sunlight of these islands to the grand Wajuyu festival. You can savour Nengoné’s delicious land and sea produce in the excellent buffet put on by the festival’s organizing committee.

Throughout the three days of the festival, the Wajuyu will offer you its very best! You can enjoy tasty dishes prepared by our local chefs, head out for a fishing session with our skippers, dive to explore the depths of the ocean and go for a stroll on the sublime Eoce (pronounced « Eotche ») beach. Our staff will be at your disposition to suggest activities you can enjoy at the weekend. All this awaits you in the land of the Nengoné!

In addition to the many food stands, you can delve into the fair’s local ambiance by meeting Nengoné’s artists and troupes, who perform traditional songs, music and dances. Above all, the Wajuyu Festival is a convivial event, full of sharing and swapping, where you will have the chance to get to know the local people by staying in a tribal home. Your weekend will be enriched by these lovely encounters, and lasting friendships will be forged.
